Latvia’s lost world
Pape, a tiny hamlet on the Baltic shore of Latvia, became a ghost town after Soviet authorities slapped a ban on fishing in the area. Now this pristine environment is seeing a new lease of life as part of the Nature 2000 European network of protected natural sites. The park not only protects wildlife, but attracts thousands of tourists.
