The GCCA

The GCCA was created to respond to the necessity of establishing an alliance between the European Union and developing countries most vulnerable to climate change. It fosters political dialogue between the European Union and developing countries and identifies technical and financial support.

The objective of the dialogue is to support the convergence of visions between Europe and developing countries on the negotiations under the UN Framework Convention on Climate Change (UNFCCC), in order to gather support for the 2009 Copenhagen Accord.

Its priority areas of interventions are:

  • Adaptation;

  • Reducing emissions from deforestation and degradation;

  • Enhancing participation in the Clean Development Mechanism (CDM);

  • Promoting Disaster Risk Reduction;

  • Mainstreaming climate change into poverty reduction development strategies.
