Green infrastructure – Building blocks of modern life

Next month, a new video will be released about “Green Infrastructure”, a strategically planned network of high-quality green spaces and environmental features. With around 80% of the EU’s population now living in towns or cities, taking care of the green infrastructure that breathes life into urban and rural habitats has never been more important. Achieving thriving biodiversity is vital to addressing numerous challenges, from climate change adaptation to long-term economic stability.

Water under threat? Ensuring sufficient, safe water for Europe

Urban sprawl, population growth, and climate change are all well-known threats to our water. But how many people know about the effect of pharmaceutical products on water quality? How is their disposal being regulated, how big a threat to wildlife does it pose, and what can be done to clean up affected areas? Scarcity is another problem: can wastewater be transformed into clean water to help Europe’s most arid regions tackle shortages? And should irrigation practices change? A new VNR examines the issues surrounding water quality and quantity.
